Echoes of Queens: Grafh Is on God’s Timing (with 38 Spesh)

In a borough known for crafting and molding rap superstars, Jamaica, Queens native Grafh reemerges with his latest offering, God’s Timing. This album is a celebration of both his personal journey and the rich culture that shaped him, showcasing Grafh’s deep connection to his roots. Grafh dives into the essence of New York, showcasing tracks like “Take Risks” featuring Vado and Dre Island, and “Rocafella Chain” with Freeway, Peedi Crakk, and Memphis Bleek. These collaborations not only highlight his ability to hold his own alongside hip-hop legends but also his commitment to staying authentic in an ever evolving industry.

Languages

From the very first track, “Languages,” listeners are immersed in the raw sound of New York—specifically the cultural heartbeat of Queens. Grafh wastes no time painting vivid pictures of his surroundings, bringing the flavour and soul of the Queens to life. This album showcases the different layers of his hometown, from the street hustle to a deep respect for hip-hop’s roots. As an artist who has always embraced his environment, Grafh has mastered blending the iconic sounds of his upbringing with modern-day lyricism, making God’s Timing feel like a full-circle moment in his career.

Grafh’s journey through hip-hop has been remarkable. A veteran in the game, he’s been grinding for over two decades, earning respect from fans and peers for his raw lyricism and authentic portrayal of street life. Early in his career, Grafh caught the attention of hip-hop heavyweights, even signing with Roc-A-Fella Records, a dream for any New York rapper steeped in bars and lyricism. Though the label was nearing its end during his time there, the experience solidified his connection to hip-hop’s legacy and served as a driving force throughout his career.

“I define myself as the most authentic. I’m selling authenticity. New York cool, and just the culture as a whole.” – Grafh

God’s Timing: A Reawakening for Grafh

Now, with God’s Timing, Grafh stands at the pinnacle of his journey, describing this moment, his moment as a reawakening, feeling like he’s been “dipped in holy water” and has emerged stronger and more focused than ever before. The album brings together an impressive lineup of collaborations, including tracks like “Take Risks,” “Remember Who You Are,” “Fight For Love,” “Right Now,” and “Rocafella Chain,” which feature icons of hip-hop’s golden era such as Method Man, Jim Jones, Talib Kweli, Peedi Crakk, Memphis Bleek and more.

The energy at his recent show at S.O.B.’s alongside Freeway, Peedi Crakk, and Memphis Bleek was electric, reaffirming that Grafh is, in his words, “the hottest I’ve been in my whole career.”

One of the standout moments in Grafh’s journey is his collaboration with Method Man on “Fight For Love.” For Grafh, working with the Wu-Tang Clan legend was surreal, as Method Man had long been a major influence on his style and approach to hip-hop. The collaboration emerged from a mutual admiration that began at a tribute event for Sean Price, where Method Man praised Grafh’s performance. The result is a powerful track that blends both artists’ energies, representing the respect and authenticity that Grafh holds close to his heart.

Rock, Paper, Sciccors

But Grafh isn’t just honouring his influences—he’s pushing the genre forward. Tracks like “Rock, Paper, Scissors,” a spontaneous freestyle created with producer 38 Spesh, reflect his innovative approach to wordplay and storytelling. His knack for naming and structuring songs shows that while he remains deeply rooted in hip-hop’s traditional elements, he’s always searching for new angles to explore.

In addition to his music, Grafh’s evolution includes giving back to his community. His Music Therapy program, which he’s introduced into schools, provides young people with an outlet to express themselves through music, helping them navigate emotions and life challenges. This initiative is deeply personal for Grafh. After losing his father at a young age, hip-hop became his therapy, helping him process his trauma and pain. Now, he uses his platform to offer the same support to the next generation, giving them the mentorship and tools to succeed, not just in music but in life.

You can find Grafh and 38 Spesh’s God’s Timing on Apple Music, Spotify, and various other digital streaming platforms via T.C.F. Music Group.
