Canadians watched in horror Monday as police used rubber bullets, tear gas and other methods to suddenly and violently clear protesters from Washington D.C.’s LaFayette Square. It was done solely so that fearless US leader Donald Trump could march with his all-white aides to a local church for a photo op.
While already making his allegiance to the far right pretty clear, the latest move demonstrated Trump’s lack of concern for American citizens, and showed how important it is for him to pander to his base. He’s made no effort to bring the country together over the past week, and instead has done various things to increase the divide.
The Bible—which he held backwards and upside down—wasn’t his, the Church spoke out against his visit afterwards, and he didn’t didn’t stop to pray. As Stephen King pointed on in a tweet directed at fundamentalist Christian Trump supporters: “If Obama had held the Bible backwards and upside down, you would have called him the Antichrist.”

Trump and those involved have received a lot of backlash for the decision to carry this out, and was the centerpiece today for several op-eds published by pundits.
Canadian JUNO Award-winner Shad was in the mix, and provided interesting perspective in the form of a multi-panel social media post. It starts by pointing out that the holy book Trump was holding contains a story that is referenced three times due to it’s importance. He goes on to explain the story while cleverly pointing out that the man holding the book doesn’t hold the values that are found within it.
It starts with the words: “A certain world leader held up a book today for a photo op and gave a smug speech threatening violence. In that book there is a story important enough to be recounted 3 times.”
