Earlier today, Drake shared his first new music of 2019, dropping his take on “Girls Need Love” by Summer Walker.
The Atlanta-based artist released the Arsenio Archer-produced single in 2018 as part of her debut album, Last Day of Summer. To date, the single has been streamed more than 35 million times on Spotify, and has racked up millions of other streams on other platforms.
Despite the popularity of the song, Walker is about to see a noticeable boost in popularity courtesy of the coveted Drake co-sign.
Other acts that have benefited from it include Kodak Black, Migos, Skepta, Ramriddlz, ILoveMakonnen, The Weeknd, and even more.
After Drake announced the song would be coming by posting the artwork, Walker expressed her excitement in a post of her own: “omg I can’t believe this is really happening! thank you so much @champagnepapi.”
“Like a lot of modern music, Walker’s original song exudes the influence of Take Care, so Drizzy’s new version completes the circle in a way.” – The FADER
From Genius contributor EmmaWilson1: “Walker’s debut album, Last Day of Summer, is a collection of songs that showcase the talented vocalist’s ability as a songwriter. Her debut is a transparent display of her thoughts and feelings on confidence, doubt, love and womanhood. Tapping into an array of styles for production, Walker shatters any preconceived ideas about her sound being one dimensional.”
