TLDR: Budding Toronto singer-songwriter Heavy Huddy drops his first release of 2025 with the catchy new single, “Oh Darling.”
Toronto’s own Heavy Huddy is back with another anthem. The Scarborough artist—who made his debut in 2022—has just dropped his latest single, “Oh Darling,” alongside a brand-new music video. The track pays homage to The Fugees’ classic “Killing Me Softly With His Song,” which is itself a cover of the late Roberta Flack’s iconic single. It also nods to one of Canada’s biggest legends, Shania Twain.
Released by Huddy’s own Hudson Media, “Oh Darling” brings out his signature blend of smooth melodies and gritty authenticity. The song leans into a more soulful vibe, with Huddy channeling classic 90s R&B influences while delivering heartfelt lyrics.
“I’m just trying to make good music in these times,” Huddy says about the release. “Shit gets too serious where I’m from… trying to bring back the love.”
Adding to the nostalgic energy, the single’s artwork features a repurposed image of Shania Twain from her legendary 1995 album, The Woman In Me. The tribute doesn’t stop there—on the second verse of “Oh Darling,” Huddy repeats the phrase “From This Moment On,” a subtle but intentional nod to Twain’s 1997 hit from the album Come On Over.
This release marks a significant milestone for the Scarborough native, who transitioned from artist management to the spotlight as a recording artist. As we noted back in 2022, “Huddy has been a mountain of support for countless Canadian artists, but is now focusing on breaking out on his own.”
Huddy first stepped into the music scene as part of the DeepWaters collective, working closely with Toronto rapper Gangis Khan aka Camoflauge. While he’s been a behind-the-scenes force for years, “Oh Darling” is further proof that he’s ready to take centre stage.
