Inside Jamz Unplugged: Capturing Toronto’s Underground Sound

We were recently introduced to Jamz Unplugged, a gritty new performance series from Toronto’s own HNTRS CLUB, and were pleasantly surprised by their deep lineup of videos. Stripped-back, tightly shot, and relentlessly honest, the show feels less like content and more like documentation of Toronto’s progression. There’s no flashy editing, no industry polish—just performances from artists you’ll want to say you knew before everyone else did.

Hosted on the HNTRS CLUB YouTube channel, the series keeps things minimal—just a mic, a stage, and an artist with something to say. It’s the kind of setup that forces focus.

Directed by Canadian Screen Award winner Yvano Antonio and hosted by the charismatic SplashGB, the series brings together a standout lineup of rising Toronto talent. Artists like Mally Swayzz, LowerCase, ST4R, iBXRHM, and Fredericks Reginald each bring their own flavour to the mic—whether through their raw performances or the candid interviews that round out each episode. It’s part showcase, part conversation, and all about capturing artists in their realest form.

Fredericks Reginald performs “Lapis Lazuli” in his Jamz Unplugged appearance, while LowerCase delivers a freestyle titled “Malvern Martyr.” Other featured performances include iBXRHM with “Badgirlera,” ST4R with “Rockout****,” and, most recently, Mally Swayzz performing “Shooting Stars.” Most episodes pair the performance with an interview, giving viewers a fuller picture of the artists behind the music.

Jamz Unplugged feels like a growing archive of what’s really happening in Toronto hip-hop right now—unfiltered, unscripted, and evolving in real time. Each performance is a carefully lit, tightly framed look at what the city sounds like when the gloss is stripped away and the voices are left alone to resonate.

Check out some of the more recent videos from the series below, and be sure to subscribe to the YouTube channel for the latest updates.
