Let The Boy Die: Quake Matthews previews next album with touching new Merkules-assisted single

With a new album on the way, renowned Halifax rapper Quake Matthews is back with the project’s first single, “Let The Boy Die.”

Collaborating with West Coast rap star Merkules, and showcasing his prowess as a producer, the song sees Quake introduce a touching narrative on the struggles artists face when passion starts to wane.

Reflecting on how different he felt about things when he first jumped into the rap game, Quake questions how life would turn out if he had the opportunity to “do it all over again”—in search of the same passion and drive he started with.

“I swear this rap race use to be a joy ride, but somewhere along the way I let the boy die.”

Merkules follows with another dope verse, referencing the artists and brands that influenced him as a young artist, and taking a moment to appreciate what he’s accomplished. He also takes the opportunity to pay tribute to fallen rapper, Pat Stay, who was close friends with both artists.

Both Quake (“Daddy Is A Legend“) and Merk (“Pat Stay Forever“) have released tribute songs for Stay, who was killed in Sept. 2022 in Halifax. It’s people like these guys that are helping ensure his legacy lives on.

Quake’s next album Roses is expected in February, but in the meantime, “Let The Boy Die” is available on Apple Music, Spotify, and various other digital streaming platforms.
