What is a DAO and how does it work?
It stands for Decentralized Autonomous Organization, sound like freedom? Here is a short explanation from Wikipedia: “It acted as a form of venture capital fund, based on open-source code and without a typical management structure or board of directors. The DAO would then provide those owners tokens, allowing them voting rights on possible projects.”
Many project crypto tokens work as DAO’s, for example, $MANA from Decentraland lets you have a voice and a vote within the governance of Decetraland’s eco-system.
“Through the use of smart contracts, a DAO can work with external information and execute commands based on them – all this without any human intervention. A DAO is usually operated by a community of stakeholders incentivized through some kind of token mechanism.”
Our opinion on DAO’s: My personal experience with DAO is that the intention can be great. Imagine when you bought a car, the company gave you governance power in what happens with that car company in the future? Sounds like a great way to create equality within capitalism. However, when you look deeper, the same problems of the fiat world are coming up. The people with more financial power buy more tokens and end up having a louder voice than those with less financial power.
My proposed solution would be to let all token holders, large or small have an equal voice. Those who do not hold tokens can volunteer to empower the community through tasks and events. This would give the DAO a true feeling of equal access.
