Off the heels of his latest single “One of Mine” and gearing up for the release of a new solo album (coming soon), Baton Rouge lyricist TEC drops a haunting visual for his new single “No Love.”
The video captures TEC being trapped in the “sunken place.” In 2017, film director Jordan Peele explained the meaning of the term with a tweet: “The Sunken Place means we’re marginalized. No matter how hard we scream, the system silences us.”
In Peele’s movie, Get Out, the sunken place is “a trance-like, other-world state black victims of hypnosis are trapped in when their bodies are taken over by white hosts.”
With production by Playboy XO, TEC delivers a hard-hitting cadence against organ-style synths.
“When I heard the ‘No Love’ beat, it just made me wanna vent about some dark shit,” TEC shared with Hypebeast.
“What’s more dark than the world we live in today? I was thinking about the world from my point of view—how it lacks love, is full of hate, and how society has us all trapped and hypnotized.”
The music video, creative directed by frequent content collaborator Sedrick Savoy, echoes TEC’s sentiments with its chilling imagery of punitive flames, villainous hypnosis and physical suffering.
